& as our 2 faced country prepares their vigils for the young life murdered & hear the cries of ‘violence against women & girls isn’t acceptable anytime or anywhere’ : i wonder, will we ever really learn? will we ever really really give a shit about the violence perpetrated against women & children in our little country? will we give a shit enough, to actually do something about it? because this shit is Not new & is an epidemic.
but one we seem to tolerate, until it happens where we can’t just ditch that shit so no-one else will ever see it.
i guess i was kinda hoping that i wasn’t right & that our little town wasn’t really as racist AF. that mabes i was being a little sensitive *insert eye ball roll* & that it was all in my head.
well, i had some valuable learns. sad learns. but valuable.
i learned-ded that our little town is indeed as racist AF. that they decline a brown person housing, supply & participation, based solely on colour / ethnicity.
i was privy to half a dozen stories, of being declined last minute for housing, after the owner discovered the applicant was actually brown. another story of being declined over the counter sales @ our local shop, based on colour. another story of ‘modifying the brown’ of a worker so she could properly serve the white clients. another story of a family leaving our community because of the racism her & her children had suffered.
there were a few others but i’ll stop there.
so … where does this leave us?
now that the guts feeling has been confirmed, do we wait for the next covert racist comment that comes our way? do we chose to ignore it or confront it head on? what if that racism comes from the people who own the house? or who have the potential of renting to us? how much ass licking & pride swallowing do we do?
this is a real thing.
it’s a choice. & most of the time we suck it up & ignore the racist remarks … because we have shit to do & the choices are limited.
its all well & good preaching rights & activism. the reality is though .. we y’all gonna live? what y’all gonna eat? whose gonna fill in your scripts if your confront the motherfuckers about their racism??
non-racist country my ass!
I’m currently having an ongoing ‘debate’ on Facebook, re ‘forgiveness’ (the christianity version), versus a perpetrators ‘need’ to apologise.
This has stemmed from this article and pertains to legislation that the Crown used to beat Maori children for speaking their native language.
I’ve responded in my varying ways, but am still agitated.
My agitation has more to do with societies response to child victims of abuse, as adults. It annoys the living fuck out of me that there is less than no understanding of what a child has to endure; what they do endure; and what they are left with after that fact. It doesn’t just go away … any abuse. And to refer to Jesus’ call to forgiveness is also appalling and completely misunderstood.
I’m not Jesus. I don’t follow Christianity. I don’t really “DO” religion of any kind. However, I was raised in a ‘Christian’ household; and I know the Bible.
And this is what the Bible says regarding those who hurt children:
“If anyone causes one of these little ones to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
Please note: this scripture doesn’t mention ANYTHING about forgiveness. It also says ‘it would be better for…’; I wouldn’t mind knowing then …
What did he have in mind for those who DO hurt children ;)
the mean #throwback of Apr 16, 2016 @ 16:23, which is still relevant AF!
i’m more in tune with the grinch than that fat white dude that apparently comes down the chimney to eat your cookies & leave gifts … okay, so if that’s not creepy then i’m not sure what is right!!!
anyway, FB, town, friends houses … are all getting lit with the ‘christmas spirit’ apparently, cos its fucking christmas & this is the time to be all festive & expensive & good vibey & shit …
but i aint doing it this year … @ all.
i announced to the girls i’m not ‘doing christmas’ this year, as set out on the gregorian bullshit calendar. it’s not christs birthday, so what are we celebrating?
this year it’s officially become a celebration of ‘december day’: a day when the mokos papa gets a day off’ve the working bullshit. *insert eyeball roll* it’s some fucked up shit all right.
i’ll leave the rest of my christmas sentiments, right here:
not my meme. but i like it. wish i had’a thought of it.
oh well …
The following video is a six part series, looking at and discussing the recent events within New Zealand prisons. Whilst these events are ‘new’ to the public, they are in no way new to those working within the system or for prisoners themselves.
We should be disgusted.
Instead, our laziness as a nation, has given us exactly what we invested in. There is plenty of research to suggest that the punitive justice system does not work. And it definitely doesn’t work for Indigenous, with our people disproportionately taking up the insides of these prisons.
Māori Law academic Moana Jackson is calling for the abolition of prisons in NZ and says Ngāti Kahungunu would set up their own system to deal with tribal members that commit crime. Jackson presented his evidence at an urgent hearing before the Waitangi Tribunal over the alleged failure by the government to address the high Māori prison population.
We addressed our own ‘crimes’ pre-colonisation, and I believe we should return to our own systems. The current Crown system is not, at present, nor has in the past, ever done any good for us!
So why do we continue down this track?
Politics and Money.
Again, we should be disgusted.

standing at the pinnacle
blowing through her bones
tipuna to the left
the living to the right
Papatuanuku under foot
Ranginui shining from above
in her hand
from the tipuna
a staff, weapon, of strength
and she stands
head tilted slightly
ready to move
and lay waste
ready to scream
the war cry
to enter into the new
