parihaka. the peaceful protest.

we are told that there is solidarity

cohesion

and strength

in employing

a peaceful protest stance

a passive resistance stance

a standing united

together

stance.

.

Let me tell you about a great protest

of peaceful resistance

of strength and solidarity.

the feathers that they wore

the sweat of their brow

the unwavering focus

that they used.

let me tell you of the multitudes

of peoples;

of women

of children

who defended

peacefully

without malice

without violence.

let me tell you of the pillage

that was behest upon them

because of that peaceful

passive

resistance.

and the apology

that followed

nigh 150 years later.

the minimal apology

doused with arrogance

and flounce

backed up

with a cool few million.

Parihaka will forever be a stand for what is right

followed by the screams of loss.

Not sure what this little fullah is but he is beautiful, and I spent plenty of time stalking the little shit to get a half way decent photo of him. And this was the best I could do … i know ..

We get a few different birdies out here but besides the humble sparrow and the gorgeous fantails and of course the tui, I’m not really up with the play on bird watching and naming names.

What I love about them though, is they just do their thing. They don’t stress or worry and I’m pretty sure they’re not anxiety ridden over where their next meal comes form or where they’re going to lay their feathery little heads for the night. They just Do. They just Are.

I can appreciate that and its something I’d aspire too xo.

Well my River trip photos have come to an end …. a beautiful end I must say :)

The entire experience, for Me, was mindful and beautiful and an achievement in and of itself. I had times of anxious-ness … the dreaded hot flush here and there … but there is something quite soothing about looking out onto this scene and feeling the feeling of being ‘present’, or part of something larger than yourself.

Because this is the land of my tipuna (ancestors), it held an extra special something for Me. My tipuna were hearty survivors … I am grateful to them for that part of my character.

One of my favourite things is minimalism. I love throwing shit out; organising shit; lining shit up … I’m one of those people that likes pretty much an empty room.

I guess minimising and clearing stuff out is my way of physically emptying shit out of my mind and off’ve my shoulders.

So guess what I’ve been up too ;)

Thats right … my mindfulness moment came in the form of one rearranged shelf the now holds nothing but my Nans old decanter, shot glasses and wine glasses … all lined up in a nice little row.

And I felt joy ;)
